Enemies Galore

“To You, O LORD, I lift up my soul, O my God, I trust in You; let me not be ashamed; let not my enemies triumph over me” (Psalm 25:1, 2)

“For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: whose end is destruction, whose god is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame – – who set their mind on earthly things. For our (genuine Christians’) citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ” (Philippians 3:18-20)

Even the great King David of Israel, some 3,000 years ago, had “tons” of enemies! While reading through the Psalms, I came across more than 100 references to enemies, with many of the Psalms having been written by David. Jesus also had enemies – – those who were jealous of Him and refused to believe His credentials. And, tragically, many today follow in their train.

We live in a world filled with enemies – – those who have animosities against us. The question is, why? Why do some people hate other people? Numerous answers abound: Perhaps they are jealous of us; or, could it be that they resent what we believe? Perhaps a competitive spirit is the issue? All too many have developed a bitter animosity against others for various reasons. And egotism, indoctrination, peer pressure, the media, electronic gaming, etc. contribute to this insane madness.

Our world is filled with enemies. For whatever reasons, they seek to in some way hurt those they hate. Their minds have been corrupted and controlled by Satan, mankind’s greatest enemy. He is not only man’s greatest foe, but also God’s. Mind you, he is never God’s equal, but His adversary. And until God ultimately vanquishes him, he will continue to vent his wrath against those who seek to follow that which is good, right and true (according to the Bible).

Are you for or against that which is good, right and true? On whose side are you on anyway? You see, whatever a man sows, that will he also reap (Galatians 6:7)! Someday, everyone will have to give an account to God, and that includes you and me, my friend!
