“For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope” (Romans 15:4).
Although most people own a copy of the Bible, they have no clue as to its contents. They do not realize that God utilized 40 writers over a period of c. 1600 years to write His thoughts down and pass it down to generations over the centuries. Here is some of what you may have been missing:
1. Learning about the universe God has created, about His purpose for your life, about His great love for mankind, about how exactly you may have the assurance of entering into heaven, about Jesus Christ’s sacrifice in your behalf, about your future and that of your loves ones, and about literally thousands of other lessons from history and prophecy (predictions made by God).
2. Another major “ingredient” you will find throughout the Bible is contents that will give you hope. My guess is that your struggle with hopelessness is the direct result of your neglect of reading the Bible. Hopelessness often manifests itself in boredom, depression and even thoughts of suicide.
Have you read your Bible lately. It is God’s method of providing you with eternal and abundant hope. Begin reading it today, and I would suggest the Gospel of John as a start. Rejecting God’s Word has eternal consequences (John 12:48); accepting it brings life (Matthew 4:4; Jeremiah 15:16).
