Final Battle for Jerusalem

“For I (the LORD) will gather all the nations to battle against Jerusalem; …. Then the LORD will go forth and fight against those nations; as He fights in the day of battle” (Zechariah 14:2a, 3)

“Behold, I  (the LORD) will make Jerusalem a cup of drunkenness to all the surrounding peoples, when they lay siege against Judah and Jerusalem. And it shall happen in that day that I will make Jerusalem a very heavy stone for all peoples; all who would heave it away will surely be cut in pieces, though all nations of the earth are gathered against it” (Zechariah 12:2, 3)

King David Taking Jerusalem

Throughout historical memory Jerusalem has been the most embattled city in the world. Wikipedia puts it this way, (“Timeline of Jerusalem“) – – “…in the History of Jerusalem; a city that had been fought over sixteen times in its history. During its long history, Jerusalem has been destroyed twice, besieged 23 times, attacked 52 times, and captured and recaptured 44 times.” And then, there is the final battle to come described in Zechariah and other Scripture portions.

The Bible makes it unmistakably clear that Jerusalem is an eternal city – – it is the city God has chosen for Himself and therefore, all the battles against it are essentially against God Himself!  Interestingly, some believe that that is where the Garden of Eden was located, while the last city mentioned in Scripture is “the New Jerusalem,” not the new London, Paris or Rome!

Not only is Jerusalem God’s city, the entire land of Israel has He given as a gift to His chosen people, the Jews – – a forever land for a forever people! Jeremiah puts it this way, “…I will cause you to dwell in this place, in the land that I gave to your fathers forever and ever.” (Jeremiah 7:7)

God’s message to the nations or people of the world is very simple: “Don’t mess with Me!” Nobody has ever fought God and won, nor will they ever do so! The message is rather simple: BELIEVE God and BLESS His people! Perhaps returning to the message Zechariah proclaimed may not be a bad idea: it is a solemn warning from God Himself!

  1. Zechariah 2:8
“For the LORD of Hosts says this: “He has sent Me for His glory against the nations who are plundering you, for anyone who touches you touches the pupil of His eye.”
    That means anyone!
