GOD OF NUMBERS

“HE COUNTS THE NUMBER of the stars; He calls them all by name” (Psalm 147:4). “Lift us your eyes on high, and see who has created these things, who brings out their host BY NUMBER; He calls them all by name, by the greatness of His might and the strength of His power; not one is missing” (Isaiah 40:26)

God is interested in numbers, and you will find this true throughout the Bible. As a matter of fact, an entire Book of the Bible is named “Numbers!”

Interestingly, some numbers are specified and some, unspecified. I will begin with a few specified ones, and then an unspecified one:

1. SPECIFIED:
   1. The days of God’s creation of this universe are noted to be six twenty-four- hour days, just as we have them today (Genesis 1, 2). [I recommend The Early Earth by John Whitcomb, as well as The World That Perished, by the same author as excellent resources]!
   2. Our days are numbered (Psalm 90:10, 12). God told Moses to write this!
   3. The greatest counted number was Christ to be in the grave – – 3 days!
   4. The worst 7 years in human history are still ahead (Daniel 9:25-27)!
   5. Thereafter, there will be a thousand-year reign of Christ’s kingdom on earth, which will be extended eternally (Revelation 20:1ff), P.S. I take these numbers literally, although I realize that others, using an inconsistent method of interpretation, spiritualize or allegorize these figures.
2. UNSPECIFIED

What we are not told in the Bible is the exact time when the King of this universe, Jesus Christ, returns to meet those who have placed their trust in Him in the clouds of the air to be with Him in their heavenly home:

And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. (John 14:3)

Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. (1 Thessalonians 4:17)

We do not know the exact time when this will take place, but we know for sure that #1 – – it will happen! And #2 – – every day is a day closer to that determined event! Are you one of these, and are you ready for the Lord’s return??
