ACCOUNTABILITY 101

“You shall not at all do as we are doing here today – – every man doing whatever is right in his own eyes” (Deuteronomy 12:8)

“So then each of us shall give account of himself to God ” (Romans 14:12)

“And it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment” (Hebrews 9:27)

I don’t think that too many will argue that people today live any way they wish, just as they have in the past. A classic example of this is the way people lie and distort the truth. I have observed this across the board – – in government circles, among religious leaders, denominational heads, advertisements and commercials – – liars abound and often they do so without blinking an eye! They have no qualms or scruples and live under the false assumption or delusion that there are no consequences and that morals are irrelevant. They have become the arbiters of that false notion.

So let me ask you, the reader, a very simple question – – what if there is. What if there is the God of the Bible)?!)?!  What if the Bible is true and the prognosticators have fooled millions over the centuries? What if there is an accounting to be given after one’s death? Look at the clear declaration: “Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will  also reap” (Galatians 6:7)

One writer puts it this in this summary form:

“(1) We are directly responsible to God for our choices and (2) There is a day coming when we will give an account for them. …Every human being is personally responsible for his or her choices. Both unsaved and redeemed are held accountable by God.” He concludes, “The Bible teaches unequivocally that each human being is personally responsible for his or her actions. We are accountable first to God and also, in a limited way, to each other.”

Lawrence Richards in Zondervan Expository Dictionary of Bible Words, pp. 12, 13.

Nobody really made you do it – – Turn to Christ and He will cleanse you from all sin and make you a new person…

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9)

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. (2 Corinthians 5:17)

Exactly!!
