“’Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me (Jesus Christ). In My Father’s house are many mansions (dwelling-places); if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. And where I go you know, and the way you know.’ …Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father (Who is in heaven) except through Me’” (John 14:1-6)
During my lifetime I have attended many funeral services and in a number of them the clergy would refer to a place called “Heaven.” In all too many of these eulogies the speakers very tragically omitted telling the assembly how to actually get there. (It could be that they themselves were ignorant of the means of getting to Heaven – – being “blind leaders of the blind”). If people were to realize the graveness of going to the only other eternal destiny mentioned in the Bible (called “Hell”), they would either be spiritually blind or crazy not to want to enter God’s eternal and glorious Heaven!
Jesus tells “doubting” Thomas (and the rest of the world) how to get to Heaven: He authoritatively and divinely declares that He Himself is the only way, the only truth, and the only life! Notice that 3 definite articles are used – – “the,” “the,” and “the!” (A definite article speaks of something that is singled out as being specific and exclusive). What Jesus is saying is that there is no other way or truth or life except Himself! No religion, no ceremony, no ritual, and definitely no “good” work whatsoever will get anyone to Heaven. God doesn’t need or want these other avenues of getting there. As a matter of fact, He categorically rejects any other way or truth or life – – any other system or fabrication offered by anyone!
To be delivered from God’s wrath (to be saved), there is only one way – – the Lord Jesus Christ! Any other channel or avenue is false, hopeless, and totally useless. You can argue all you want to, but your eternal destiny is at stake! Believe the Lord Jesus Christ ALONE, and He will save you by His grace ALONE! Call upon the name of the Lord and you will be saved – – forever! And that, my dear friend, is the ONLY way to Heaven! So says the Creator and Savior of mankind! He ALONE is the final authority!
