“Do not fret because of evildoers, nor be envious of the workers of iniquity. For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb” (Psalm 37:1-2)
David lived in an evil environment, much as we do today. For example, have you ever noticed how often David refers to his enemies in the Psalms? (Just look up the word “enemy” or “enemies” in the Psalms. [Use a good Bible concordance like Strong’s, Young’s or Cruden’s]. And you don’t have evil enemies??

In verses 3-8 of this same Psalm (37), King David recorded the “how” of living in the midst of an evil environment:
Verse 3 – – TRUST IN THE LORD! (repeated in verse 5) and DO GOOD! (in the middle of evil, live the opposite)!
Verse 3 – – FEED ON HIS FAITHFULNESS! God is always true to His Word, and the historical record bears this out! Feed your mind on that!
Verse 4 – – DELIGHT YOURSELF (ALSO) IN THE LORD! Do you take pleasure in and long for God? Is He the main desire of your heart (mind, emotions, and will)? Then look at the next phrase, “He shall give you the desires of your heart!” Is the God of the Bible your heart’s desire?
Verse 5 – – COMMIT YOUR WAY TO THE LORD! A familiar phrase is “Let go, and let God”! The idea here is to roll off onto, similar to I Peter 5:7, “Casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.”
Verse 7 – – REST IN THE LORD! (is this not the opposite of restlessness)?
Verse 7 – – And WAIT PATIENTLY FOR HIM! (Check out Proverbs 3:5-6).
Verse 8 – – CEASE FROM ANGER AND FORSAKE WRATH! DO NOT FRET (also in verse 7)! Why? Because it only causes harm, often to oneself!
Evildoers (and there are millions of them), will soon be mowed down by God Himself. He will do that and do so in short order! In the meantime, the Holy Spirit of God told David what to write – – and these words will surely help us !
