“Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15)

Let face it, there are “tons” of different Bibles one can purchase today.
There are various editions, covers, sizes, uses, etc. The choices are many, and at times, bewildering. In the past few months, I’ve been asked the question several times – – which Bible should I get? One very special friend of ours was going to begin a Bible study for her lady-friends and wanted them to have a good and dependable Bible they could use for that purpose.
I’ll begin our little study today by providing you with the answer I shared with her and will also tell you why I gave her that answer. My recommendation was that she and her group of students get the David Jeremiah Study Bible, the New King James Version of the Bible (large letter edition). Here’s why:
- One of my reasons is that many Christians were raised on the older King James version of the Bible. They memorized verses from it, heard it proclaimed from hundreds of pulpits, read it in their homes, studied it in Christians schools, etc. For centuries it was the most commonly used text of the Christian world. The New KJV has made some good changes to the older edition.
- . Secondly and more importantly, in my personal view, this translation (NKJV) as well as the New American Standard Bible (NASB), put out by the Lockman Foundation (1995 edition), are closest in accurately translating the texts of the Old and New Testaments manuscripts into the English language. [The Old Testament was written in Hebrew and Aramaic, while the New Testament was written in Greek]. [The science of weighing the evidence for text-types is also better known as the science of Textual Criticism].
- Finally, I know others might disagree with my conclusions. But, in any case, why not get this Bible with its numerous helps, and begin your lifelong study of the Bible. I think you’ll be glad you did!
