JESUS IN THE OLD TESTAMENT (THE HEBREW SCRIPTURES)

In the following words I would like to set forth teachings from the biblical text itself that 1) Jesus Is to be found in the Old Testament (OT), and that 2) He is God!

  1. Jesus is the CREATOR! Genesis 1:1 states: “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” You might say, where is Jesus mentioned here? My response is that whenever you see the word “God” used in the OT, it is the Hebrew word Elohim. In the original language, the “…im” ending of a word is grammatically masculine plural! So, God is one in essence, but three (in) persons! But there is far more.
  2. Jesus is GOD’S SON! The OT says so! Look at Proverbs 30:4, “Who has ascended into heaven, or descended? Who has gathered the wind in His fists? Who has bound the waters in a garment? Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is His name, and WHAT IS HIS SON’S NAME, if you know?” God has a son, and this passage can only refer to Jesus (also in a creation setting)! Did I mention THE SON in Psalm 2:7, 12?!
  3. The foundational text of the Hebrew Scriptures is Deuteronomy 6:4, “Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one!” It is clear that the word for “one” is echad, which speaks of a oneness or unity rather than the number one. This also points to a plurality!
  4. Jesus alone is THE ATONEMENT FOR MAN’S SIN/S! Isaiah 53:5, 6 speaks clearly about Christ’s sacrifice. He was sinless – – no sinful sacrifice will be accepted by God, whether by an individual or a nation!
  5.  Isaiah 9:6 clearly references the incarnation of the SON to take on human form. Look it up in your Bible! And while you’re at it, check out Micah 5:2!

The prophet Joel (2:32) urges a final application – – “…that whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved!” Are you heeding the Word of God?
