“The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the Son of David, the Son of Abraham” (Matthew 1:1).
After reading the title of this article you may think that I have “flipped.” Everyone knows that Christmas is a Christian holiday and not Jewish.
But wait just a minute – – here is some food for thought:
- Prophets (like Isaiah and Micah), who predicted the coming Messiah, were of Jewish stock.
- The first Christmas took place in Bethlehem – – that’s in Israel.
- The Christ of Christmas was of Jewish lineage from the tribe of Judah – – from which, by the way, we derive the term “Jew”.
- The first church met in Jerusalem, Israel, and all its initial constituents were Jewish believers in Jesus, the Messiah.

Coming to think of it, the world owes a great debt to the Jews:
- God gave us the moral law through His chosen people, with Moses as its recipient and mediator.
- They were careful scribes who provided us with the Bible (including the New Testament). As a matter of fact, all 40 writers of the Bible were Jews! They were holy men of God and were directed what to write by the Holy Spirit of God.
- The Savior of sinners, the Messiah, was (born) a Jew!
From now on, when you think of Christmas, thank God for Jesus and His people, the Jews!
