“Heaven and earth will pass away, but My (Jesus’) words will by no means pass away” (Matthew 24:35)
In the language of the New Testament, there is a grammatical construct that sounds like ooohmay in English. It’s a composite of 2 Greek words – – oooh and may. Both of these words are negative particles and put together, they form a double negative. In English it might be translated as “Never, positively not! It will never happen! It’s unthinkable! There is not even the slightest possibility that it will ever take place: by no means, not a chance!”
This expression occurs 86 times in the New Testament. Here is a sampling of its usage:
Matthew 24:35 (the aforementioned passage) says that God’s Word is eternal – – the Bible is a forever Book! It will never ever pass away.
John 6:37 states, “…The one who comes to Me (Jesus Christ) I will by no “means cast out.
John 10:28, “And I (Jesus Christ) give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand.” Once a person is genuinely saved, born again from above, he will never perish in Hell and the Lake of Fire. He cannot and will not lose his salvation!
Hebrews 13:5 uses the negative no less than 5 times: “…For He (God) Himself has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you.’” This is written only for those who have placed their faith in Christ alone!
Such horrible days are soon to happen on the entire earth that John writes in Revelation 9:6, “In those days men will seek death and will not find it; they will desire to die, and death will flee from them.”
The coming total devastation or destruction of Babylon (modern-day Iraq) is predicted in no uncertain terms in Revelation 18:21-23 (6 negatives)!
No defilement or defiler will ever enter the glorious and eternal city of God (Revelation 21:27)!
