LET THE PSALMS COMFORT YOU

“For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope” (Romans 15:4)

The Psalms are some of my very favorite portions of the Bible. I have to admit – – I’m addicted to them!

In the first place, they are given to us by God. He wants us to read them for our benefit and blessing. Many of us have had difficult lives and the Lord knew we would need His comfort, encouragement and reassurance!

Among these 150 Psalms one will find selections for every conceivable situation: there are Psalms of hope for the hopeless; Psalms of uplift for the depressed; Psalms of strength for the weary; Psalms of praise for the downcast; Psalms of mercy for the miserable; Psalms of courage for the weak.

Probably the best-known of the Psalms is the 23rd, written by David – – the shepherd who became the greatest king of Israel. Here’s a direct application of that Psalm – – I need the Lord like the sheep need their shepherd!

Some other well-known Psalms are the:

First, Second, Nineteenth, Thirty forth, Fiftieth, Ninetieth, Ninety first, One Hundredth, One hundred eighteenth, and the One hundred nineteenth. That’s just for starters.

Are you fearful, worried, feel a sense of guilt, hurting deep inside, feel misunderstood or wondering about life in general? You know what to do – – meditate on the Psalms. It’s time to let God’s Word help and comfort you as nothing or nobody else will!
