Notice I use the word “some” to indicate that there are numerous other facts concerning this highly important teaching found in God’s Word, the Bible. I will here utilize the form of an acronym, words I formed from the consecutive letters found in the word “FACTS:”
F The “F” stands for FELLOWSHIP. Prayer signifies a fellowship or shared communication with God. 1 John 1:3 states, “…and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ.” The great Caruso singer, Mario Lanza, put it so well, “I’ll Walk with God, From This Day On!”
A The “A” stands for ADORATION. My very good friend who went to be with Jesus in Heaven not too long ago, always began his prayer(s) with “I love you; I adore you, I worship you.” This is when we recognize who God is from what He has revealed about Himself. We stand in awe before/of Him!
C The “C” stands for CONFESSION. We are all sinners: yes, you too, my friend (Romans 3:23)! Israel’s greatest king David realized this all too well! He wrote in Psalm 51:3, 4, “For I acknowledged by transgressions, and my sin is always before me. Against You, You only, have I sinned, and done this evil in your sight – – that You may be found just when You speak, and blameless when You judge.” He was always quick to confess his sin!
T The “T” stands for THANKSGIVING. This is not an easy prayer, especially when things don’t go well for us! I Thessalonians 5:1 reads, “In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” Wow, that’s a tough one, but it glorifies God (Psalm 50:23).
S Finally, the “S” stands for SUPPLICATION. That’s the one we are most familiar with, even though at times we can only eke out the word “HELP!”
Did you know that Jesus Himself prayed and is praying, even as you read this article (Hebrews 7:25)? Did you know that you need to ask God if you need something, and let Him determine the best way and time to answer your prayer? Why should you receive it if you don’t bother asking? Finally, did you know that God commands prayer – – it’s not an option (Matthew 6:9)!
