“But evil men and impostors will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived” (2 Timothy 3:13). “But the wicked shall perish; and the enemies of the LORD, like the splendor of the meadows, shall vanish. Into smoke they shall vanish away”(Psalm 37:20).
We live in the reality of a real world with real events and people. With this in mind, very few will debate that there has been and is a real explosion of evil in the world today! But before we move on, I think we need to get a clearer understanding of what we mean by “evil.” One writer, S. J. De Vries, provides us with some clarity as to what we are dealing with. He writes,
…evil has a moral and spiritual connotation. Thus it indicates the wrong that men do to one another…. It also indicates the moral badness, maliciousness, and perversity of the sinful heart…. The ‘doers of evil’ are therefore the wicked…. The expression ‘good and evil’ covers the whole range of moral or spiritual possibilities, with their necessary consequences….
In simple language, evil is what and who is opposed to God and His Word, the Bible! And it expresses itself in and through wrong thoughts and actions
Lately, I have heard so many comments about how bad things are getting “out there.” Why doesn’t God get rid of the bad in the world? Why doesn’t He stop it (or them)? What is this world really coming to? What about our (grand)-children growing up in this miserable and terrible environment?
Due to the limitations of space here, may I provide you with 2 biblical solutions or promises:
Soon, God will severely punish evil and evil-doers! (Revelation 6ff.). “…for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap” (Galatians 6:7)!
But he who calls on the name of the LORD will be saved(Romans 10:13). He, the caller, is promised eternal life in Heaven with Christ forever! Really! – – that’s reality, for real!
