FEELING BYPASSED BY GOD?

“Why do you say, O Jacob, and speak, O Israel: ‘My way is hidden from the LORD, and my just claim is passed over by my God?’ Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the weak, and to those who have no might He increases strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall, but those who wait on the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint”

(Isaiah 40:27-31)

God’s own chosen people, the Jews, would at times feel like so many of us:

They were weary, worn out, and tired of being “bombarded” with the threat of invasion from the enemy (Isaiah 36ff.) and from the consequences of their own sins (Isaiah 40:2). No need to point fingers, all of us have sinned against God (Romans 3:23; 6:23)!

It is time for God, the God of Israel, to show his power. After all, He never gets weary (Isaiah 40:28) but gives renewal of strength even to the youth (40:30), and especially to those who are willing to wait on Him (v. 31)!

Have you really considered God’s abilities (to help you)? He alone is the LORD, He never had a beginning, He created this entire universe, His understanding is unsearchable and vast – – therefore, He alone is more than able to increase and renew your strength, just as He did for His chosen people who felt God had bypassed them!

Isaiah gives all of us something to consider and enact, especially when you’re feeling “down:”

  1. Think on His person (40:28)
  2. Thank Him for His present (40:29) and
  3. Trust in His power alone (40: 30, 31)!

In 1876, Edmund Lorenz wrote this wonderful Christian song, “Tell it to Jesus:”

“Are you weary, are you heavy-hearted? Tell it to Jesus, tell it to Jesus.

Are you grieving over joys departed? Tell it to Jesus alone.”
