“Bring the cloak that I (the apostle Paul) with Carpus at Troas when you come – – and the books, especially the parchments” (II Timothy 4:13)
“Till I (Paul) come, give attention to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine (systematic teachings of the Bible)”(1 Timothy 4:13)
Reading and handling good books has become a lost art in America. Those who are known to be “bookworms,” have drastically dwindled in numbers! One writer (Mark Bauerlein) entitled his book The Dumbest Generation, and he is so right!
Well, enough about the “modern” plague of ignorance. One often hears of people speaking of having a “bucket list,” especially regarding places they wish to visit prior to “kicking the bucket.” I would like to recommend just a few volumes you should read before it’s too late to read them.

1 THE BIBLE ! I personally spend much time in the New King James version (Thomas Nelson publishers), or the New American Standard version, published by the Lockman Foundation. Many have criticized the Bible without even having read it. Have you?

2 The Pilgrim’s Progress was written by John Bunyan who was imprisoned for his faith. It is a world-renown classic that has been translated into dozens of languages! You may wish to purchase a modern English edition with illustrations. Also available are children’s copies.

3 The last volume I would like to recommend to you was written by Henry Morris. It is entitled Many Infallible Proofs, put out by Master Books. This book provides easy-to-understand evidences for the Christian faith. At one time I used it as a textbook for my students. It’s good “stuff!”
There are many other books I would highly recommend, but let these three suffice to begin with. Actually, the first recommendation is the only one you really need! That one, God Himself wrote!
