“At that time Michael shall stand up, the great prince who stands watch over the sons of your people; and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation, even to that time. And at that time your people shall be delivered, every one who is found written in the book. And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to EVERLASTING life, some to shame and EVERLASTING contempt” (Daniel 12:1, 2)
One of my friends, Paul Tan, wrote a book, The Interpretation of Prophecy. In it, on page 358, he quotes from an eminent historian, Hendrick Van Loon, who seeks to illustrate the length of eternity (which is everlasting). He wrote,
“High up in the north, in the land called Svitjod (Sweden), there stands a rock. It is 100 miles high, and 100 miles wide. Once every 1,000 years, a little bird comes to this rock to sharpen its beak. When the rock has thus been worn away, then a single day of eternity will have gone by.”
That’s a very long time! It is time without end! Billions and trillions of years multiplied time and again!
But the big question is, where will you spend ETERNITY? The only authoritative source we have that provides a definitive answer is the Bible, God’s Word! In it we are informed of only 2 destinies for all mankind – – either Heaven, or Hell (the Lake of Fire). Those who place their faith in Jesus Christ alone will forever be saved from Hell and the coming wrath of Almighty God. They will experience the presence and presents of God Himself (Psalm 16:11)! Those, on the other hand, who have rejected God’s gracious offer of salvation will forever experience God’s punishment. (There will be no exit doors found in this place of condemnation)! Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and He will give you EVERLASTING life, and your name will be inscribed in His book. At death, your destiny is sealed forever (Luke 16:22ff.)! Which will it be for you – – God’s eternal SALVATION, or your eternal SENTENCE?!
