LIVING IN A FRIGHTENING WORLD

“Peace I (Jesus Christ) leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid” (John 14:27)

Never before in my life have I come across so many who are scared to death and running around like scared rabbits. They know that something is up but can’t sometimes seem to put their fingers on what it is that causes their real fears. If they are honest, gnawing in their innermost being is the thought that they are facing imminent danger of dying. Here are some things they are experiencing: serious medical issues, powerful enemies from within and from without, legislated immorality, religious persecutions, numerous perversions, increases in crimes, and a host of other threats! And hopelessness abounds!

My wife and I just got back from a few days of much-needed R & R. We found many who were hungry to talk about what is going on in the world and were searching for truthful answers – – answers that only God can give and has provided. After all, the bottom line is very simple – – only God can help what is taking place in the world today. (I am referring to the only and true God of the Bible).

So, what did God say? Let me put it in a simple order:

1. People have willfully sinned against God, fully knowing that appropriate consequences would follow. Romans 1:18 states that they “suppress the truth!” (They put their thumbs down on it and don’t want to hear it).
2. Jesus Christ, God’s unique and sinless Son, took mankind’s punishment upon Himself, which all sinners deserve (because all humans have sinned).
3. He thus offers salvation [from sin and consequential, eternal wrath] as a gift to those who TRUST HIM (put their faith in Him alone)!
4. Those who believe then experience the inner peace of God which surpasses all understanding. It is the heart at rest with God.
5. This peace removes fear of an evil world system. An agitated heart can only be calmed with the peace that only Jesus Christ, the Messiah, offers. YES, there is inner peace amid outer turmoil for believers!
