“When I call to remembrance the genuine faith that is in you, which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your Mother Eunice, and I am persuaded is in you also. …And that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus” (2 Timothy 1:5; 3:15)

My mom went to Heaven just a few years ago. She never aspired for fame, glory, or greatness. For most of her life she bore the horrific and painful memories and consequences of the Second World War. Many times, she was not able to provide for her family as others were. She bore three children of whom I am the oldest. Her last years on earth were spent in the confines of a nursing home with improper care. Along with my sister, we were privileged to be with her when she passed into glory (Sadly, my brother was physically unable to attend).
No, she wasn’t perfect; but then again, I don’t know of any humans who are! But she bore fruit unto eternity that none can remove from her: She prayed for us and led us to a personal relationship with her Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. It is because of her heart for God that all three of her children are walking with the Lord and serving Him to this day!
Timothy also had a great mom. His mom and my mom (as well as my wife’s mom) had this in common – – they instilled the Holy Scriptures into us when we were very young. It is highly instructive and interesting that the word for “childhood” mentioned above, is even used of the unborn or newly born infant. It could be that Timothy’s mother and grandmother read the Bible to Timothy while he was yet to be born! In other words, it is never too early to instill the Word of God into God’s very precious, priceless gift to your family
– – your children!
The Book of Proverbs (22:6), a Book full of wisdom, puts it this way:
