But know this, that in the last days perilous (fierce, treacherous) times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away! (2 Timothy 3:1–5)
So you leave a message on the phone and the recording states that the recipient will call you right back. But don’t hold your breath. Your toner cartridge is supposed to last you for a couple hundred of pages, but it’s empty by the time you reach a half of that amount (at the most). Then you call some repair guys for estimates. They show no interest in even coming to look at your problem. If they should happen to show up, they don’t want to bother with writing out an estimate. How about when you buy a product and find that the price has risen drastically, while the quality has been “watered down,” or, it takes forever to get the parts. The hospital charges your insurance $12,000 a night for just putting your head down on the pillow. It’s called “observation status.” Hundreds of employment opportunities are advertised all over, but very few takers are interested in doing any work. (Not sure how they pay their bills however – – “luck” at the casinos? the sponsorship of the government?)! And we’ve only just begun this list!
What has happened to dependability, honesty, integrity, loyalty, productivity, and truthfulness? Out the window! All too many simply don’t seem to care. “Let the other guy do it!’ And our society has plummeted into a moral chaos or slump! The picture is very bleak: We are watching the crumbling, decadence, and decay of a once great culture and civilization. There are all too many evil and powerful forces that are the very producers of such ultimate instruments of death.
Is there any hope for those who are mourning our downfall? For most parts, no! This situation points to the evils of the human heart, for one. It also points to the accuracy of the prophetic Word of God, the Bible, which predicted these conditions to be found in the last days. But YES, there still is hope! And with this thought I conclude: The only hope for any or all of mankind is a turning away from sin against the God of the Bible! He is mankind’s only hope! He will save you by His grace, if you will only call upon Him! His name is JESUS CHRIST, THE MESSIAH, THE KING OF KINGS AND LORD ABOVE ALL LORDS!
