There is no doubt in my mind that “many gods and many lords” speak of religions and their leaders or promoters. There are literally hundreds of religions or belief-systems in the world today as there have been for millennia. And here’s the problem: they can’t all be right at the same time and in the same way – – that would be logically impossible, because they contradict each other! The reality, however, is that they are all wrong, including the religions of atheism and agnosticism!
But, you might respond, isn’t Christianity a religion? Good question! If you consult most dictionaries, textbooks on religious studies, etc., they will inform you that Christianity is one religion among many, as their writers perceive it. However, Christianity is radically different than any other belief-system in the world! It is far more than a religion, per se – – it alone provides satisfactory answers to the ultimate reality issues of life such as who made me? why am I here? is there a God, and if so, has He revealed Himself? what happens to me after I die? etc.!
Yes, indeed, God has revealed Himself in the Bible. He alone is the true God and has no equal (Do not fear, nor be afraid;Have I not told you from that time, and declared it?You are My witnesses.Is there a God besides Me?Indeed there is no other Rock;I know not one.’ ” (Isaiah 44:8)), and He commands mankind not to have any other gods (religions) besides Him – – that’s the first of the 10 Commandments! “You shall have no other gods before Me. (Exodus 20:3)
Let me just point out one of the major catastrophes of religions: most advocate that man must appease god or the gods. They must do good deeds to be in good standing with their deity or deities. The opposite, however, is true of Christianity – – it is a RELATIONSHIP established not by any good works – – it’s not what man does for God, but what Christ has done for man. (For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. (Ephesians 2:8–9))! NO religion will save you from God’s wrath – – only Jesus Christ can and will if you call upon Him! And it shall come to pass That whoever calls on the name of the Lord Shall be saved. For in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there shall be deliverance, As the Lord has said, Among the remnant whom the Lord calls. (Joel 2:32)
