THE WORLD’S GREATEST MUSICAL COMPOSITION

“Yours, O LORD, is the greatness, the power and the glory, the victory and the majesty; for all that is in heaven and in earth is Yours; Yours is the kingdom, O LORD, and You are exalted as head over all” (1 Chronicles 29:11)

Around the year 1741 George Frideric Handel composed the famous chorus which used the word Hallelujah 47 times. It is an oratorio in honor of Jesus the Messiah. The story is told that at the second performance of Handel’s Messiah, on April 14, 1742, in Dublin, Ireland, King George II was so moved by the first few notes of the Hallelujah Chorus, that he stood to his feet. Every-one else in attendance followed suit. This incident is cited to explain why a tradition of standing during its performance remains. You owe it to yourself to read how this fantastic composition came into being!!

Here, due to the limitation of space, is an abbreviation of this world-renown choral masterpiece honoring the Son of God, the Lord Jesus Christ:
