“Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him THE NAME which is ABOVE EVERY NAME, that at THE NAME OF JESUS every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father” (Philippians 2:9-11)
It’s almost time to vote again. Candidates and their assistants are busy distributing fliers, mailings, posters, etc., highlighting their names. They are counting on name-recognition to gain voters for themselves.
But this is not only true of the tradition of voting, but it is also true of other mechanisms in our society. For example, have you noticed (and who hasn’t) the way commercials are to influence you to buy a particular name brand? (For me personally, the more the commercials clog my screen, the less I will purchase their product)!
All the same, it’s this issue of name-recognition. We do so with certain book-titles or authors. And the list goes on. We associate names with their achievements, exploits, popularity, and positions, etc.
So, which name is it that most of the world population has at least heard of for the past 3,500 years? Here are some of His names (all referring to the same Person) – – the Messiah, the King of kings, the Lord of lords, the Angel of the LORD (in the Old Testament), the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Holy One, the Son of God, and many other names or titles for the same Person!
Here’s the point: someday every person ever will recognize Him and bow before Him as God! They will recognize Him whom they either accepted or rejected. There will be no exceptions! He’s the only One who can save you from your sin and God’s wrath. He’s the only One who can give you everlasting life when you call upon Him. He’s the only One to be worshiped.
No one else is (or ever will be) God alone! There is no higher or ultimate authority! Why not bow now and confess Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord! HIS is the name (authority, identity, nature) that counts – – forever!
