Some Select Thoughts on The Resurrection Of Jesus

“Now if Christ is preached that He has been raised from the dead, how do some among you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ is not risen. And if Christ is not risen, then our preaching is empty and your faith is also empty. Yes, and we are found false witnesses of God because we have testified of God that He raised up Christ, whom He did not raise up – – if in fact the dead do not rise. For if the dead do not rise, then Christ is not risen. And if Christ is not risen, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins! Then also those who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men the most pitiable” (I Corinthians 15:12-19)

As I was contemplating what to write regarding the resurrection of Jesus Christ, it became clear to me that countless books, articles and messages have already been produced on this most important of all subjects in this universe! In our limited space allotted here, I will only jot down a few of my contemplations:

  1. More than 500 credible eyewitnesses gave testimony that Jesus, who was crucified 3 days earlier, was alive and recognized as one and the same Person!
  2. The historian Josephus and other credible sources have given witness to Jesus. [An excellent resource is Gary Habermas, The Historical Jesus: Ancient Evidence for The Life of Christ, especially pp. 253-255].
  3. David, who antedated Jesus by about 1000 years, predicted Christ’s resurrection – – that Jesus, unlike David, would not see corruption.
  4. Jesus Himself fulfilled His own predictions that He would rise again on the third day.
  5. To picture Jesus as still hanging on the cross contradicts God’s Word!
  6. Time and again God has performed miracles, of which the resurrection of His beloved Son is the greatest! Without believing that CHRIST AROSE, you cannot be saved from sin nor have eternal life in Heaven!
