Count Your Blessings

“And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, because you obey the voice of the LORD your God” (Deuteronomy 28:2)

“…A man can receive nothing unless it has been given to him from heaven” (John 3:27b)

In the year 1897, Johnson Oatman Jr. wrote the following Christian song that has proved to be a great blessing to many. Thinking of the words, one is challenged to reflect upon something we often neglect to do:

“When upon life’s billows you are tempest tossed, When you are discouraged, thinking all is lost, Count your many blessings – – name them one by one, And it will surprise what the Lord hath done.

Are you ever burdened with a load of care? Does the cross seem heavy you are called to bear? Count your many blessings ev’ry doubt will fly, And you will be singing as the days go by.

So amid the conflict, whether great or small, Do not be discouraged – – God is over all; Count your many blessings angels will attend, Help and comfort give you to your journey’s end.

COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS – – NAME THEM ONE BY ONE; COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS – – SEE WHAT GOD HATH DONE; COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS – – NAME THEM ONE BY ONE; COUNT YOUR MANY BLESSINGS – – SEE WHAT GOD HATH DONE.”

Johnson Oatman Jr.

Not a bad remedy for discontent, discouragement, or just plain misery!

P.S. Why not write down some of the blessings that God has sent your way? Then trust Him for the future! Don’t limit your blessings only to money. How about family, friends, and health, etc.?
