“Who is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts, He is the King of glory. Selah” (Psalm 24:10)
This phrase, “the LORD of Hosts” occurs close to 300 times in the Old Testament. It is one of the great names of God in the Old Testament. “Hosts” is used of heavenly bodies and earthy forces, of the army of Israel and of the heavenly beings. One writer states, “It is probable that the title is intended to include all created agencies and beings…” In other words, “all created agencies and forces are under the leadership or dominion of Jehovah, who made and maintains them.” Another writer put it this way, “It is used to exhibit Jehovah as at all times the Savior and Protector of His people” (Psalm 46:7, 11). To summarize, God is in charge of His entire creation (angels, armies, natural forces and people)!

Just to illustrate: in the near future there will be a host of armies that will come against the mountains of Israel (Ezekiel 38, 39). They will invade the land especially for its loot (38:12). To make a long and most exciting account short, the outcome of this assault against the Jews will be that God (the Lord of Hosts) will bring forth an earthquake, which will have global effects; He will cause the enemies to kill each other, bring flooding rain, great hailstones, fire and brimstone against those who are gathered to destroy God’s people (Ezekiel 38:18-23). You’ve got to read this!!
It will come about on that day, when Gog comes against the land of Israel,” declares the Lord God, “that My fury will mount up in My anger. In My zeal and in My blazing wrath I declare that on that day there will surely be a great earthquake in the land of Israel. The fish of the sea, the birds of the heavens, the beasts of the field, all the creeping things that creep on the earth, and all the men who are on the face of the earth will shake at My presence; the mountains also will be thrown down, the steep pathways will collapse and every wall will fall to the ground. I will call for a sword against him on all My mountains,” declares the Lord God. “Every man’s sword will be against his brother. With pestilence and with blood I will enter into judgment with him; and I will rain on him and on his troops, and on the many peoples who are with him, a torrential rain, with hailstones, fire and brimstone. I will magnify Myself, sanctify Myself, and make Myself known in the sight of many nations; and they will know that I am the Lord.” ’ (Ezekiel 38:18–23)

All this is to say that the LORD of Hosts is all-powerful against anything that mere humanoids or other evil beings can come up with. So, no matter what will take place in the future, God is in control and will have no problem leveling evil forces and bring them to justice or judgment (in His time)! But conversely, this same LORD will protect and provide for His people. He has already assured them of eternal life in Heaven with Him forever. It doesn’t get any better than this. Praise the LORD of Hosts and trust Him to be your Savior!
