Are You Losing Hope?

“For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have HOPE (Romans 15:4)

Despair, suicide attempts and total bewilderment have reached a fever pitch in our day. Many are losing hope, and some have given up! What a tragedy!! And I might add, an unnecessary one!

So, what is hope? Most moderns understand it as some form of wishful thinking. For example, “I hope it won’t rain a week from now….” Or, “I hope to accomplish my ‘bucket list’ before my umpteenth birthday.”

But this is so different from the biblical concept or teaching about hope. The Bible defines hope as a confident expectation in God’s promises. This is born out in such passages as Titus 1:2, “In hope of eternal life which God, who cannot lie, promised before time began.” God has made certain promises that we can claim and count on! The fulfillment of these promises are certain and available for those who will believe them! It is totally blind and irrational to reject God’s help and hope when it is so readily available!

I’m really baffled – – many today would rather suffer depression, despair, and a real sense of hopelessness than to open their Bibles (like passages from the Psalms), and begin to enjoy the hope of life that God has promised to those who will trust Him, and Him alone! What are the promises God has made to us? Look them up and claim them. Confidently expect that God will be true to His Word and will give you a renewed hope and fullness of life, in spite of prevailing circumstances! For starters, you may wish to read Joshua 1:8-9!

This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”
Joshua 1:8-9
