“Thus says the Lord GOD: ‘This is Jerusalem; I have set her in the midst of the nations and the countries all around her’” (Ezekiel 5:5).

Many misguided souls think that America is or should be the center of the world. Historians would beg to differ. One city that has been around for more than 3000 years and around which the news continually focuses is Jerusalem! Here is the biblical perspective:
- The epicenter of the world is Israel, God’s land (Joel 3:2)
- The epicenter of Israel is Jerusalem
- The epicenter of Jerusalem is the Temple Mount
- The epicenter of the Temple Mount is the Temple
- The epicenter of the Temple is the Holy of Holies
- The epicenter of the Holy of Holies is the Ark of the Covenant:
- It was the place above which God’s presence dwelt
- It was the place that contained the 10 commandments!

To make a long story short – – the real battles over the centuries were really not about a piece of land the size of which is a bit smaller than the state of New Jersey. The real battle is one that has been waged against the God of the Bible and His moral commands! Psalm 2:2-3 put it this way, “The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together against the LORD and against His Anointed (Jesus the Messiah), saying, ‘Let us break Their bonds in pieces and cast away Their cords from us.’” The world has resented God and His moral restraints. It’s like Tootle the locomotive that thought there would be more freedom off the rail-road tracks.
You should read the rest of this Psalm to see God’s course of action and His solution for mankind:
He who sits in the heavens shall laugh; The LORD shall hold them in derision. Then He shall speak to them in His wrath, And distress them in His deep displeasure: “Yet I have set My King On My holy hill of Zion.” “I will declare the decree: The LORD has said to Me, ‘You are My Son, Today I have begotten You. Ask of Me, and I will give You The nations for Your inheritance, And the ends of the earth for Your possession. You shall break them with a rod of iron; You shall dash them to pieces like a potter’s vessel.’ ” Now therefore, be wise, O kings; Be instructed, you judges of the earth. Serve the LORD with fear, And rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest He be angry, And you perish in the way, When His wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him. Psalm 2:4-12
It’s a fitting conclusion we find in Revelation 21 – – the eternal state – – that the final abode of all believers in Jesus Christ is called “the New Jerusalem.”Will you be there? Place your faith permanently in Christ alone, and you’ll be there!
