Categories Of Beliefs

“Not unto us, O LORD, not unto us, but to Your name give glory, because of Your mercy, because of Your truth. Why should the Gentiles say, ‘So where is their God?’ But our God is in heaven; He does whatever He pleases” (Psalm 115:1-3)

It has been variously guesstimated that there are anywhere from 10,000 to 30,000 belief systems. Those would include (from the broader to the more specific ones) such groupings as religions, denominations, cults and sects. That’s quite an array or assortment of choices, isn’t it? So, how does one make the right choice?

After all, they can’t all be right, especially in the same way and at the same time (basic Aristotelian logic). When these systems contradict each other, then only one of them can be right. But which one is the right one?

I would like to offer some help at this juncture. The real issue is not what label I attach or subscribe to. The real issue is truth. In other words, which one of these belief-systems rightly corresponds with reality. (Truth is often and commonly defined as that which corresponds with reality).

That leads us to clarify ultimate reality questions such as, is there a God, who made me, why am I here and what happens to me after I die?

The only “religion” I know of that satisfies this quest for truth is biblical Christianity. One will find truth in the Bible alone (not in ritual, a religious leader, tradition or one’s imagination). There is no reason why I should reject God’s claim that Jesus Christ is the truth (John 14:6) and that the Bible is God’s truth (John 17:17)! As a matter of fact, I gladly embrace and subscribe to this unique and truthful belief-system! It readily conforms to reality – – the way things are, have been, and, I might add, will be! [For example, the risen Christ]!

The Psalmist above, hundreds of years ago, recognized the difference between “their God” and “our God.” In which God do you place your belief?

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

John 14:6

Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.

John 17:17
