“You shall have no other gods before Me” [the God of the Bible] (Exodus 20:3)
“You are My witnesses. Is there a God besides Me? Indeed there is no other Rock; I know not one” (Isaiah 44:8)
Remember the former things of old, For I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like Me, (Isaiah 46:9)
Modern society has opted to follow gods other than the biblical One. Many have chosen to pursue gods of their own imagination, gods who have died long ago and are mortal, gods who bring only temporary pleasure and, tragically, gods who contradict the eternal and sovereign God of the Bible. These are all bad substitutes for the One who is the true God.
These other gods are impersonal, man-made, incapable of acting in behalf of their worshipers, leave one unfulfilled, promote paganism and violence and are short-lived.
In contradistinction, the eternal God of the Bible commands awe, is the ultimate Ruler and Judge of this universe, keeps His promises, is authoritative (has the right to say so and the power to enforce what He says), and has no equal. Therefore, He is to be revered, thanked and worshiped.
The apostle Paul wrote the following words in an unmistakable fashion, “For even if there are so-called gods, whether in heaven or on earth (as there are many gods and many lords) [lower case], yet for us there is one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we for Him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, through whom are all things, and through whom we live. However, there is not in everyone that knowledge….” (I Corinthians 8:5-7a).
At the end of the day, Jesus shall reign over this universe and every knee shall bow before Him — that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. (Philippians 2:10-11). An old adage puts it this way, “the proof is in the pudding.” Someday all humans will find out that they were not the ones who would determine which god would win.
