“And if it seems evil to you to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve…. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD. So the people answered and said: ‘Far be it from us that we should forsake the LORD to serve other gods” (Joshua 24:15, 16)
You and I make tons of choices every day – – should I go back to bed after I shut off the alarm? What clothes should I put on and which pair of shoes should I wear? One or two cups of coffee? Exercise now or later (or not at all)? Which program should I watch on TV? How many children should we have? What do I want to add to my “bucket list?” Which college should I attend, or get a job or vocational training instead? Hundreds of decisions will be made throughout the week and thousands more during one’s lifetime.

Needless to say, many decisions have little or no major consequences. For example, should I use Crest or Colgate toothpaste? However, some choices have major and often catastrophic consequences: For example, attending the wrong church. Reading bad materials. Believing half-truths. Following egocentric leaders. You get the picture!
But all of these decisions or choices are miniscule compared to the one that has eternal consequences – – your eternal destiny! Let’s face it, we all have to die (and few of us really cherish the thought)! So what happens immediately and eternally at the moment of death is that your destiny is forever sealed – – either in an eternal Heaven or in an eternal Hell. That translates into everlasting life or everlasting separation from God, hope, as well as experiencing the wrath of the God of the Bible (the only true and living God)!

You see, the Holy Spirit of God is calling you to repent of your sins and to place your faith in Jesus Christ alone. Rebelling against God’s Word and rejecting this gracious offer of salvation, needless to say, will never secure a place for you in Heaven. But accepting God’s free gift of everlasting life assures you His forgiveness, grace, love and mercy. Please heed these sobering words: “He who believes in the Son (Jesus Christ, the Messiah) has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him” (John 3:36). God is not kidding
