A Message to Religious People

“Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’” (Matthew 7:22, 23).

There is coming a day when God is going to tell many religious people to depart from His presence. This is an eternal judgment from God given to those who were quite impressively religious! All their religious deeds were done in the name of the Lord. How can you argue with that?

But herein lies their condemnation: it had to do with their lawless practices. Let’s try to put it into terms we can all understand We know all too many people (leaders and laymen) who know how to use religious lingo! They’re good at it! They are experts in reminding others of their own “spirituality.” And unfortunately, gullible and ignorant listeners believe them.

But what about some of their practices? These very same people are those who deceive, lie, cause disunity, set themselves up as authorities, live egotistical, egocentric lives, are themselves ignorant of the Holy Scriptures, and are no different than those who don’t claim any religious interests.

Our churches are full of hypocrites and our young people are turned off due to the lack of genuine spiritual role-models! Will Christ have to some day say to you, “Depart from Me?”
