Studying the Bible

“So they read distinctly from the book, in the Law of God; and they gave the sense, and helped them to understand the reading” (Nehemiah 8:8).

Most of the people who parrot that there are mistakes or errors in the Bible are ones who have never read the Bible through. I, for one, have not found such errors. Most people also don’t understand that the Bible is a life—giving Book (Matthew 4:4).

I challenge you to start reading the Bible, beginning with such Books as the Gospel of John and the First Epistle (letter) of John. The people of Nehemiah’s day had discovered a long-lost Book. So they began to read and explain it so that the hearers would be able to understand God’s Word.

It is in this Book that ultimate authority resides. It is this Book that will give you eternal life and peace and joy. Only in this Book will you find hope for today and tomorrow. But you must read it to appropriate it and experience its multiplied blessings. The Bible is God’s Word to you: read it to be wise, believe it to be safe, and practice it to be holy.
