The Lord’s Prayer Part II

Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven. Matthew 6:10

“Your Kingdom Come”

As we see negative world events transpire before our eyes, we wonder if things will get any better. Will God’s kingdom ever come?

Let’s get a general grasp of what we mean by God’s kingdom. In the first place, we will postulate that there is only one true God who created this universe, that He is eternal and that He is the Author of the Bible. This God will someday set up His kingdom. Second, the prophets of the Hebrew Scriptures have much to say about this kingdom: it will be a literal, on earth kingdom. Jesus Christ, the Son of David, will rule over this world kingdom from Jerusalem. It will be a time of unparalleled utopia which will be ruled in righteousness. Evil will be punished, while the righteous will experience a blissful longevity. The animal kingdom will be at peace with mankind. The blessings will flow. Third, the Book of Revelation in the New Testament makes it clear in chapter 20, that the length of this kingdom (or King’s domain) will last for a 1,000 literal years (as we count years today).

In reality, when we pray for God’s kingdom to come, we are also praying for all other predicted events to transpire prior to that time, also in a very literal manner! That includes a time of unprecedented suffering and misery such as this world has never hereto experienced
(Matthew 24:21 and Revelation 6-19).

Are you really longing for God’s kingdom to come to earth? Would you like to be a participant in it? You will, providing you put your faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, and in Him alone. No one else can or will save you. Without being born again or born from above, no one will see or enter God’s kingdom (John 3), but will experience God’s wrath poured out on an unbelieving world. I urge you to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ while the invitation is still open.

“Your Will be Done on Earth as it is in Heaven”

This part of the Lord’s prayer is easy to understand, difficult to utter. The first lesson we glean from this request is that God’s will is done in Heaven.
There is no question about it! To let you in on additional secret, God’s will is done throughout this universe, including on this earth! God even uses the negatives of this life to accomplish His greater glory! He even makes the wrath of man to praise Him (Psalm 76:10). God even uses man’s rebellion to accomplish His sovereign will (Romans 9).

The prayer here is that man would submit to His will – – that he would be a willing conduit for God’s glory to shine. After all, this life (as well as the next), is not about me or you, it’s about the glory of God through Christ!

Even the Lord Jesus, when he agonized in the garden, prayed “not My will, but Yours (God the Father’s) be done!”

Not an easy prayer by any stretch of the imagination! We are born selfish and we live for # 1 – – ourselves. Our greatest blessings come when we submit our wills to God and His power and wisdom. Most often, my will gets me nothing but trouble. But when I pray for God’s will to be accomplished in and through my life, He is well pleased and will amply reward my deferment to His glory!

Coming to think of it, I’m so glad God’s will is being done throughout this universe, albeit unwittingly at times by mankind. Why not bow your head this moment and pray, “Lord God, not my will, but Yours be done, both now and forever!”

Are you saved?
