Death-Wish

“And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment” (Hebrews 9:27).

Many today secretly (or openly) entertain a death-wish. They would rather die than live. Perhaps they are overwhelmed by life’s demands, perhaps they are angry at God, perhaps they can see no hope, or perhaps they are heavily influenced by the gurus of the advertising world who promote death, because it sells! Whatever the case, there is tremendous evidence that people want to die (just look at the national or statewide statistics on suicides – – attempted or actualized)!

But think about it for just a moment. Whether one dies naturally or otherwise, God (the giver and taker of life), guarantees every individual’s personal appointment with Him for judgment, from which there is no escape – – not even man’s wishful rationalizations or use of escape mechanisms. You and I will be judged by God after our death!

Is there any hope then of avoiding this judgment? Only one – – By accepting the judgment God has meted out on His only Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. For believers in Him there is no condemnation (Romans 8:1). All others will be consigned to an eternal hell which is ultimately cast into the lake of fire (Revelation 20:14, 15). Don’t delay in trusting Jesus, tomorrow may be too late. He came to give you life in abundance, not eternal death (John 10:10)! I want to live, don’t you?
