IMPORTANT DATES:
Apr. 20 DUE: Great American Hero (GAH) Interesting Facts identified (10).
Apr. 27 DUE: GAH 10 Facts typed in large font for putting on poster. Research Notes for creating 5 paragraph Biography Highlights Paper. GAH picture to use to create hand-drawn grid drawing.
Also on Apr. 27th, my classroom will temporarily be moved to a trailer as my room will be converted to a computer testing lab. We will be out of our room until May 15th.
May 2 CRT (end-of-year) Testing begins for my students. Students should be well rested and had a good breakfast especially today.
May 4 DUE: GAH Typed Biography Highlights Paper. Book Report - Caldecott Winner, given oral to class.
May 11 DUE: GAH Poster - There should be a relevant border around the entire poster. For example, if the GAH is Wilbur Wright, the border could consiste of airplanes or clouds. Poster must also include hand-drawn title (hero name), 10 facts, hand-drawn portrait with paper frame around it, pictures from GAH's life, a timeline that shows dates of events in GAH's life (birthdate, death date, marriage date, accomplishments and their dates), and fake "action button" for passers-by to push, . Poster focus should be on the quality of content and neatness of how poster looks. Student's name should be written BIG on back of poster. We will be working in class on posters, but parents may assist at home by helping to find and print pictures, etc. (All pictures printed at school will be black and white.)
May 17 GAH Wax Museum. Students need to dress up as their GAH (as much as possible). Posters will be displayed on walls next to where they stand. If you have a short pedestal of some sort that your student could stand on, please send it to school on this date.
